Chenoweth, Ph.D., FAWHP |
David is president
of Chenoweth & Associates, Inc., an econometric data analysis and
consulting firm in New Bern, North Carolina. He is also a professor
and director of the undergraduate Worksite Health Promotion Option
at East Carolina University. He received his Master’s degree
from Ball State University and his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
He has consulted with over 100 business, industry, and health care
organizations over the past 29 years on various health and productivity
management (HPM) strategies. He developed the Proportionate
Risk Factor Cost Appraisal™ and used this econometric
tool in quantifying the cost of physical inactivity, obesity, and other
risk factors for the states of California, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan,
North Carolina, New York, Texas, and Washington. David is co-developer
of CalcuL8™ - a break-even analytical
tool that measures the direct and indirect financial impact of employees’ risks
on health care costs and lost productivity.
For several years,
David wrote the Health Management column for Occupational Health & Safety.
He was invited to speak at a worksite health promotion forum in Czechoslovakia
sponsored by the European Union in 2005. David has written nine books
on issues ranging from health care cost management strategies for employers –to-
evaluating worksite health promotion programs. His latest book, Worksite
Health Promotion – 2nd Edition, was released in December
2006.
Recently, he was
asked to serve as the chief econometric analyst in creating the well-publicized
physical inactivity cost calculator [www.ecu.edu/picostcalc/] and served
as lead author on a major report sponsored by the Trust for Public
Land on the economic benefits of city parks. For nearly 14 years, he
served as Chair of the Business & Industry committee of the N.C.
Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Health; serves on
the Medical Advisory Board for the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA);
and, is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. He was
awarded the President’s Award by Region II of the Association
for Worksite Health Promotion in 1995 and granted fellowship status
a year earlier.
